Why we are Here The Purpose of the Life Chain
The Life Chain is a prayer service. Upon arrival, warmly greet your fellow Chainers and then begin to pray. Please do not talk. Let us pray and meditate continually, with eyes closed some of the time (if not watching small children), and let us feel free to kneel and pray (please do not lie down.) Our need for God’s divine intervention is critical, and we must not waste this precious hour.
As we join hundreds of thousands of fellow Americans and Canadians in prayer, let each of us trust wholly in our Lord and not in ourselves or in our numbers. Our own efforts have failed to end or to substantially reduce the abortion holocaust now afflicting our nation. May God intervene with power and mercy. May He forgive our past indifference and shallow commitment. May His Church rise up united against abortion’s horrors. And may He equip us with a divine strategy to end the unconscionable killing of unborn children in our nation. Below are prayer topics for us to follow.
TODAY, WE STAND IN OBEDIENCE TO II CHRONICLES 7:14
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
If our Life Chain is a true hour of prayer, God will faithfully honor it, as He has promised. Please help make this hour a turning point in the destiny of our nation.
Songs for Meditation
(to be sung softly and meditatively by each individual rather than by a chorus)
Create in Me a Clean Heart
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Thy presence, O Lord.
Take not Thy Holy Spirit from me,
Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,
And renew a right spirit in me. [repeat]
Jesus Loves the Little Children
Jesus loves the little children,
all the children of the world.
Red, brown, yellow, black and white,
they are precious in His sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world. [repeat]
Peace Is Flowing Like a River
Peace is flowing like a river,
Flowing out of you and me.
Flowing out into the desert,
Setting all the captives free.
[repeat with “LOVE is flowing…”]
He is Lord
He is Lord, He is Lord,
He has risen from the dead and He is Lord;
Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess,
That Jesus Christ is Lord.
You are Lord, You are Lord,
You are risen from the dead and You are Lord;
Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess,
That Jesus Christ is Lord.
Amazing Grace
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
that saved a wretch like me;
I once was lost, but now I am found,
was blind but now I see.
T’was grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear,
the hour I first believed.
How Great Thow Art
O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
CHORUS:
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
And when I think that God, His son not sparing
Sent Him to dieI scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died, to take away my sin;
CHORUS
AMERICA
My country, ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty,
of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim’s pride,
From every mountainside let freedom ring!
My native country, thee, land of the noble, free,
Thy name I love;
Above the rocks and rills, Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills, like that above.
Our fathers’ God, to thee, Author of liberty,
To thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright with freedom’s
holy light;
Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King.
Bind us Together
Bind us Together, Lord, bind us together,
with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together , Lord, Bind us together,
Lord bind us together with love.
There is only one God. There is only one King.
There is only one body, That is why I sing
[repeat first four lines]
(Please remain prayerful and meditative, and may God richly bless you.)
Life Chain “Code of Conduct”
Let us enter the Life Chain in a prayerful spirit. Life Chain is not a rally or celebration. We stand against a holocaust, holding signs that say “Abortion Kills Children,” and our spirit and countenance should bear witness to this fact. Let us also express as best we can, the love and forgiveness found in our Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you for standing up for Life, for defending the “weak and the fatherless,” and for maintaining a prayerful spirit. Please do not dwell on the traffic. It will take care of itself.Let’s be humble yet bold in our obedience to God, recognizing our stand is for the children, their mothers and other relatives, and for our nation’s preservation.
In the spirit of Christian love, let’s commit to be peaceful, prayerful and polite in both word and deed. Any misconduct from passersby should be met with silence and a kind “smile” to express our inner peace and forgiveness.
To acknowledge motorists who support our Life Chain, kindly respond with a friendly facial expression and not with a verbal or animated response. Our sincerity will be a powerful witness, in keeping with our signs. Prayer with eyes closed is the best response.
Please help others especially mothers with small children and seniors carrying chairs. Please pick up trash nearby before departing.
Please
- Give immediate passage to all pedestrians
- Stand back from the street, on the sidewalk
- Do not extend your sign beyond the curb
- Use crosswalks and do not hold up traffic.
- Small children only should eat or drink during the Life Chain
- Please take care of your sign so that it can be used again to help save babies
Prayer and Meditation
Please pray continually. Let us do so with eyes closed a portion of the time, and let us feel free to kneel and pray if we so desire.
Topics for Continual Prayer
- Pray a personal prayer of repentance for past failure to actively oppose abortion and to aid its victims.
- Pray that motorists who witness our Life Chain will have receptive hearts and minds.
- Pray for protection of unborn children and their moms.
- Pray God’s grace and healing on mothers who have had abortions, and pray for local crisis pregnancy centers and other pro-life healing-support ministries.
- Pray God’s sovereignty against abortionists, and pray for their eyes to be opened to their killing of children.
- Pray for Godly wisdom in our government and courts, and pray that God will strengthen and aid pro-life officials.
- Pray for the convicting impact of hundreds of Life Chains across America and Canada today, and pray for the safety and commitment of each participant.
- Pray for love and unity among us, God’s people, and pray that we and our fellow believers will submit to God’s will for our lives, our families and our nation.
- Pray that God will direct a profound spiritual awakening in our local community and throughout our land.
- Ask God how you can best help end abortion in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
Psalm 51:1-4, 7-13
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
So that you are proved right when you speak
and justified when you judge.
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins
and blot out all my iniquity.
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who have sinned against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.
